The Berlin artist Tobias Zielony (born in 1973) is one of the most discussed German photogra- phers of his generation. His photos and videos capture snapshots of our society. He is interested in “this completely parenthetical form of social interaction”. His portraits of urban living spaces and their subcultures reflect an artistic attitude that indicates the tradition of a factual, social and political experience.
This solo exhibition at the Ursula Blickle Foundation will, for the first time, put the spotlight on the films and photo animations that are playing an increasingly important role in Zielony’s work. The moving images of his videos are being shown in juxtaposition with his single frames of photography. Zielony’s photography has always demonstrated a critical awareness of the boundaries of documented objectivity and therefore has similarities with the visual imagery of cinema film. The exhibition is the first to show this aspect of his work. Within this context it will also include new large-format photographies from Rome and a new slide show installation featuring previously unpublished black-and-white photos from the project Big Sexyland (2006) by Tobias Zielony. A publication will be released by Spector Verlag, Leipzig to accompany the exhibition.
