In the center of German artist Philip Bussmann’s (b. 1969 in Hanau) solo exhibition at the Ursula Blickle Stiftung, expansive video and sound installations will be erected alongside photographic works, all dealing with the relationship of the human body to space and time. In the mid-90s, Bussmann moved to New York City where he worked for eight years as a video and graphic designer for the Wooster Group, a theater company known for its interdisciplinary productions. Since returning to Germany in 2002, he has created stage videos and stage designs for numerous international dance, theater and opera productions. He also works on his own installation, performance and film projects. His experiences in the theater world have led him to develop an intuitive approach to work, which is also reflected in his art. His highly atmospheric works often revolve around the theme of the human body and oscillate between installation and performance art, whereas his theater works are usually the starting point for further consolidation of the material.
