With his filmic portrait of Richard Wagner, the Ursula Blickle Foundation in cooperation with the Kunsthalle Wien dedicates this exhibition to the oeuvre of the individualistic German film maker Hans Jürgen Syberberg. “Parsifal,” the core work of the exhibition, is not a film, not an opera in the usual sense — its stage is Richard Wagner‘s head, in which personal stories and cultural history converge in a new visual cosmos of music. The film stands out for its hermetic character, which brings music, poetry, and drama together in a gesamtkunstwerk. As Syberberg puts it, ’the object is not to serve or oppose Richard Wagner, but to keep him alive with every means possible.‘

In addition to “Parsifal” and “Ludwig — Requiem für einen jungfräulichen König,” visitors to the Ursula Blickle Foundation will also be able to view “Wagners Briefe an die Frauen,” a monologue with edith clever, and the documentary film “Winifred Wagner.”
