Eccentrics - Group exhibition
The art of the twentieth century is characterized by styles, fashions, and trends that we attribute to certain groups of artists. Yet each period also has its eccentric outsider who doesn’t lend him- or herself to easy categorization. The exhibition Eccentrics focuses on examples of outstanding, individual positions. In keeping with this theme, the concept of the bachelor machine represents a hermetically closed creative system, the idea of the indivisibility of life and art, work and everyday life, and the utopian ambition to harmonize these poles. Hand in hand with this, one often finds the outward expression of a highly stylized self as part of an artistic strategy that uses this posture as a weapon against trite reality. The exhibition Eccentrics brings together the characteristically unusual and visionary views of different contemporary positions from Italy, Austria, the USA, and Sweden. What all these exhibition pieces have in common are borrowed elements from foreign cultures and the experimental handling of unfamiliar materials.
