STÉPHANE COUTURIER
Melting Point Series
Opening: November 06, 2010 7:00 p.m.
Duration: 07.11. - 12.12.2010
The Ursula Blickle Stiftung presents the Melting Point Series, the
largest solo exhibition in Germany of the work of Stéphane
Couturier. It features current photographic and cinematic works by the
Paris-based artist, who since the late 1990s has been considered one of
the major representatives of contemporary photography in France. The
most recent development in his oeuvre is characterized by an
increasingly intense focus on the medium of film. Couturier employs the
possibilities of photography and film, respectively, to take the formal
ordering structures of architectural, industrial, and urban situations
and condense them into new visual constructions. Building facades,
bridges, streets, construction sites, and other elements of public
space photographed from various perspectives are combined to produce a
transitory state in the cinematic or photographic image: the effect
alternates between an objective, documentary excerpt of reality and a
combination of details, perspectives, rows, and views in, out, and
through that does not function in reality. Each of the
artist’s works turns out to be an absolute visual experience,
conveyed by Stéphane Couturier, the master of maximizing
visual and temporal information.
